Sheraton project

We're Shehryar and Nadia Khan, the founders of Sheraton Interiors, an award-winning, family-run design studio in Twickenham. Thank you for choosing us to create your new kitchen.

The design is agreed. Now our job is to make the rest of the journey as calm and clear as the design process that brought you here. This guide walks you through every stage, introduces the people you'll be working with and explains what we'll need from you along the way.

It includes checklists you and your builder can tick off as you go. Please share it with your builder, architect or interior designer: a kitchen goes smoothly when everyone is working from the same plan.

If anything is unclear, ask us. That's what we're here for.

PHASE ONE

Confirm & survey

Fixing every measurement before anything is made.

  1. 1

    Your order is confirmed

    Day one

You've signed your sales order and paid your 35% deposit, which confirms our partnership. You receive this guide, and we plan your site survey around your builder's programme.

Led by your designerFrom you your builder's programme and target dates
  2. 2

    Site survey

    When the room is ready

We measure the room precisely once walls, openings and structural work are final. Measuring too early means measurements can change.

Led by your designerFrom you a survey-ready room (see checklist)
  3. 3

    Survey plans and first-fix plans

    After the survey

You receive your post-survey plans and first-fix plans, which show exactly where water, waste and electrics need to be. This is the moment to check every detail with your builder, architect and interior designer.

Led by your designer, with our CAD teamFrom you a careful review and approval
  4. 4

    Survey order sign-off

    Releases production

Once the plans are approved, we send your survey order for signature by DocuSign. When it's signed and your 35% survey payment is made, your order goes to the manufacturer. From here your order is fixed: anything added or changed becomes an additional order.

Led by your designer and MehrozeFrom you signature and survey payment
PHASE TWO

Make

Your furniture is made to order.

  1. 5

    Manufacture

    Typically 8–12 weeks

Your kitchen is built to your approved specification. Meanwhile your builder completes first fix to our plans, and we keep in touch about your build programme. Our factories close for Christmas from 14 December to 11 January, so we plan your dates around it.

Led by MehrozeFrom you updates on your build, and first fix done to our plans
  2. 6

    Goods received, dates confirmed

    Before delivery

When your order is ready, we confirm your delivery date and installation start, and book them in with you. Your final balance is due 14 working days before delivery.

Led by Mehroze and HarpsFrom you confirmation that the room will be ready, and your final balance
PHASE THREE

Prepare & deliver

The room is ready; everything arrives.

  1. 7

    Pre-delivery

    5 days before delivery

We invite you to your private project channel on Slack, where your designer, Mehroze, Harps, your installer and Jarvis, our AI assistant, keep you updated through installation.

Led by MehrozeFrom you join your channel and complete the pre-delivery checklist
  2. 8

    Delivery day

    Booked time slot

A two-person delivery team arrives within your booked window and brings everything into the kitchen space.

Led by our delivery teamFrom you clear access, parking and someone at home
PHASE FOUR

Install

Usually around four weeks to practical completion.

  1. 9

    Installation

Typically within 4 weeks, worktops included

Our installation team fits your furniture to the approved plans, with Harps overseeing the programme. Ours is a dry installation, so your own trades connect electrics, gas and plumbing.

Led by Harps and our installersFrom you a clear, safe working area, and your trades booked for connections
  2. 10

    Stage 1 sign-off

    Furniture fitted

With the furniture fitted and ready for worktops, your designer and installation manager walk through the kitchen with you, check for damage and list any snags.

Led by your designer and HarpsFrom you attend, or nominate someone to sign off for you
  3. 11

    Worktops

    Template, approve, fit

The fabricator templates your worktops on site and issues a worktop sign-off report, which needs your approval the same day. The worktops are then made to measure, typically within 7 to 10 working days, and fitted.

Led by Mehroze, with our fabricatorFrom you same-day approval of the report
  4. 12

    Splashback, glass and boiling-water tap

    After worktops

Splashbacks and any glass are templated once the worktops are in, then fitted. Your boiling-water tap and final fittings follow.

Led by HarpsFrom you access on the booked days
PHASE FIVE

Finish

Every detail right, then yours to enjoy.

  1. 13

    Remedials

    If needed

Any snags or outstanding items are ordered and booked in. Made-to-order parts typically take 4 to 6 weeks, and most remedials don't stop you using your kitchen in the meantime.

Led by HarpsFrom you photos of anything you spot, posted in your channel
  2. 14

    Stage 2 sign-off

    Practical completion

We walk through the finished kitchen together. Stage 2 marks practical completion and starts your guarantee: 10 years on furniture and 2 years on installation.

Led by Harps and your designerFrom you your final sign-off
  3. 15

    Aftercare

    For years to come

You receive our kitchen care guide, and with your permission we'll photograph your finished kitchen. We're on hand whenever you need us.

Led by MehrozeFrom you a review, and an introduction to a friend, if you're happy

Why your worktops come after Stage 1

Worktops are made to measure from a template taken on site, so the furniture has to be fitted, level and checked first. Stage 1 confirms it is. Stage 2 confirms everything is finished and starts your guarantee.

Your installation usually reaches practical completion within about four weeks, worktops included. The gap between templating and fitting is the time it takes to make your worktops: typically 7 to 10 working days.

Remedials & delays

If something isn't right, here's what happens

Even the best projects have a snag or two. What matters is how quickly and calmly they're put right, and that you always know what's happening.

Remedials

A remedial is any item that needs putting right or completing after installation: a scratched panel, an adjustment, a missing part or an item still on order.

  1. Spotted. At Stage 1, Stage 2, or by you, with a photo in your channel.
  2. Logged. Harps records it and confirms what's needed.
  3. Ordered. Replacement parts are ordered. Made-to-order parts typically take 4 to 6 weeks.
  4. Booked. We agree a date with you to fit it.
  5. Signed off. Completed and checked with you.

Most remedials don't stop you using your kitchen. A delayed item, such as an appliance on back order, won't hold up the rest of your installation where we can work around it.

Delays

Most delays come from the wider build rather than from your kitchen. When something outside our control affects your dates, we'll tell you straight away and keep everything else moving.

  1. We tell you early, in your channel or by phone, as soon as we know.
  2. We give you a revised date and explain what it affects.
  3. We keep what we can moving, installing around a late item rather than stopping.
  4. If the site isn't ready, we reschedule to the next available slot.

Common causes

  • Building work running over
  • The room not ready for survey, delivery or installation
  • Changes after the survey order is signed
  • A supplier back order or transit damage
  • Factory shutdowns, including Christmas: 14 December to 11 January

How you can help

  • Share your builder's programme and any changes
  • Approve plans and reports promptly
  • Keep to the payment milestones
  • Use the checklists before each stage

What we'll always do

  • Tell you what's happening and why
  • Give you a named person to speak to
  • Confirm new dates in writing
  • Put things right to our standard

Good to know

A few things worth knowing early

Painted & stained kitchens

Painted and stained furniture can't be altered or cancelled once production starts. We aim for consistent colour, but slight variations can occur between items.

Additional orders

Once your survey order is signed, it isn't amended. Anything added or changed becomes an additional order with its own invoice and payments, and may affect your dates. Check everything carefully before you sign.

Christmas shutdown

Our factories close from 14 December to 11 January. If your manufacture or delivery falls around then, Mehroze will plan your dates around it.

Your own trades

Ours is a dry installation, so your electrician, plumber and Gas Safe registered engineer connect the services. Book them early for second fix.

Living without a kitchen

If you need a temporary worktop or hob while you wait, tell us early and we'll talk through the options with you and your builder.

Rubbish removal

Installation creates packaging and waste. Removal isn't included, but we're happy to quote for it on request.

Natural materials & care

Living with timber and stone

Wood and stone are natural materials. They respond to heat, humidity and water, and they age with character. A few simple habits, before installation and once you're cooking, keep them looking their best for years.

A finished Sheraton kitchen with cream cabinetry, a dark island with a veined waterfall end and a lit shelf niche
Sheraton project

Heating & humidity: the comfort zone

Relative humidity in your kitchen

Below 40%
Too dry

Common in winter with the heating turned high. Timber shrinks: joints can open, door panels can show a fine line at their edges, painted joints can show hairlines and solid timber can split.

40–60%
Just right

Timber stays stable, doors and drawers run smoothly and finishes stay at their best. Keep the temperature steady too.

Above 60%
Too damp

New plaster and screed, steam and drying laundry. Timber swells: doors and drawers can stick or bow, edges can lift and mould can form.

18–22°C steady room temperature 40–60% relative humidity 27°C max floor surface with underfloor heating Gradual changes, never sudden swings
You & your builder

Before we install

  1. Wet trades finished and dry. New plaster and screed release a lot of moisture. As a rule of thumb, screed needs about a day per millimetre of thickness for the first 50 mm, and longer beyond that or in cold weather. Ask your builder to confirm with a moisture meter.
  2. Weathertight and warm. Windows and external doors fitted, and the room heated to normal living temperature for several days before delivery.
  3. Dry the room the right way. Use heating, ventilation and dehumidifiers. Avoid portable gas heaters, which release moisture as they burn.
  4. Underfloor heating commissioned. If you have it, have it commissioned and brought up to temperature gradually, following its manufacturer's schedule, before your kitchen arrives.
You

Once it's yours

  1. Keep it steady. A small digital hygrometer shows your room's humidity at a glance.
  2. Change heating gradually. After a holiday or at the start of winter, raise the heating a little at a time. With underfloor heating, adjust by a degree or two a day and keep the floor surface no warmer than 27°C.
  3. Keep heat sources clear. Don't place portable heaters next to timber doors or panels, and keep the ventilation gaps around built-in appliances clear.
  4. Ventilate. Use your extractor whenever you cook and for 10 to 15 minutes afterwards, open trickle vents, and avoid drying laundry in the kitchen.
  5. Let it settle. Timber adjusts through its first heating season. Small seasonal movement is normal; if a door or drawer needs adjusting, let us know.
Furniture

Wood, painted and stained finishes

Every timber finish is natural, so expect variation in grain and colour between items and from samples.

Natural wood

Grain you can see

Each piece has its own grain and tone, and colour changes with light: oak warms, walnut lightens. For even ageing, avoid leaving objects in the same spot in strong sunlight for long periods in the first months.

Clean
Damp microfibre cloth with a little mild liquid soap, then dry straight away.
Avoid
Wax or silicone polishes, abrasives, bleach, multipurpose sprays and solvents.
Painted wood

Colour with character

A painted finish is durable but not indestructible. On painted solid-timber doors, a fine hairline can appear where the joints meet as the wood adjusts to heat and humidity, most often in the first heating season. It's a recognised characteristic of painted timber.

Clean
Damp microfibre cloth with mild soap, then dry.
Avoid
Abrasive pads, melamine "magic" sponges and strong cleaners, which scuff or dull paint.
Chips
Ask us rather than touching in yourself; colour and sheen are hard to match.
Stained wood

Tone with depth

Stain lets the grain show through, so colour varies with each board's natural tone, and mellows or deepens with light over time.

Clean
As for natural wood: damp cloth, mild soap, dry.
Avoid
Abrasives and solvents, which can lift the finish.
Scratches
A deep scratch can expose paler timber; ask us about a repair.
Worktops

Quartz, porcelain and natural stone

Your fabricator's care guide for your specific worktop always comes first. These are the essentials for each material.

Engineered stone

Quartz

Quartz bound with resin. It's non-porous, so it never needs sealing.

Heat
The resin can scorch, discolour or crack, so always use a trivet. Never put pans straight from the hob or oven onto it.
Clean
Warm soapy water or a pH-neutral cleaner.
Avoid
Bleach, oven cleaner, paint strippers, solvents and cutting directly on the surface. Sharp knocks can chip edges.
Sintered surface

Porcelain

Fired at very high temperatures, it's highly resistant to heat, stains and UV light, and needs no sealing.

Edges
Very hard, but edges and corners can chip if struck. Take care with heavy pans near the edge.
Heat
Use a mat under appliances that give off constant heat, and trivets as good practice.
Avoid
Hydrofluoric acid, oven cleaners and floor strippers. Use a chopping board for everyday cutting.
Natural stone

Granite & quartzite

Every slab is unique. Veining, colour and natural features such as small pits or fissures vary from samples and are part of its character.

Seal
Sealed to resist staining. Reseal as your fabricator advises.
Spills
Wipe oil, wine and coffee promptly.
Clean
A pH-neutral stone cleaner. Use trivets for hot pans.
Natural stone

Marble

Softer, and sensitive to acid. Lemon juice, vinegar, wine, tomato and many household cleaners etch the surface, leaving dull marks. Sealing helps against stains, but no sealer prevents etching. Over time marble gains a soft patina that many people love.

Daily
Coasters and chopping boards; wipe spills straight away; pH-neutral stone cleaner only.
Reseal
As advised, typically every 6–12 months in a kitchen. If water spreads and darkens the stone instead of beading, it's time.

Every worktop

  • Use chopping boards and trivets
  • Never stand, kneel or sit on worktops
  • Don't lean heavy weight on unsupported overhangs
  • Keep joints and the area around the sink dry
  • Avoid sudden temperature changes, which stress any material
  • Check the seal around your sink, and renew it if it fails
Everyday

Water, steam & spills

Water and steam are the main things to guard against. These everyday habits prevent most problems.

  1. Wipe spills straight away, especially on edges, joints and around the sink, dishwasher and boiling-water tap. Liquid left to sit can work its way into a door or panel.
  2. Let your dishwasher cool before opening it after a cycle, so steam doesn't hit the worktop edge and the doors beside it.
  3. Keep steam away from wall units. Don't stand kettles, coffee machines, slow cookers or toasters underneath them.
  1. Don't hang damp tea towels over doors or leave wet cloths on worktops.
  2. Mop floors with a damp, not wet, mop. Standing water can swell plinths and cabinet bases.
  3. Check under your sink now and then. If you spot a leak, turn off the water, call your plumber and let us know.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How long will my kitchen take?

Manufacture typically takes 8–12 weeks from when your survey order is signed and paid. Installation then usually reaches practical completion within about four weeks, worktops included. Mehroze will give you dates for your project.

Can I make changes after signing the survey order?

Your survey order and contract aren't amended once signed. Anything you'd like to add or change becomes an additional order, with its own invoice and payments, and may affect your dates. Painted and stained kitchens can't be altered once production starts.

Why are there two sign-offs?

Stage 1 checks the fitted furniture before your worktops are templated, so they're made to fit exactly. Stage 2 confirms everything is finished, marks practical completion and starts your guarantee.

Why is there a wait for worktops?

Worktops are made to measure from a template taken after your furniture is fitted, typically within 7 to 10 working days. Your worktop report needs your same-day approval so production isn't held up.

Can I use my kitchen during installation?

Not until the worktops are in and your trades have connected the sink, taps and appliances. If you need a temporary arrangement, ask us early and we'll discuss options with you and your builder.

Do I need to be at home?

For delivery and for your Stage 1 and Stage 2 sign-offs, yes, or someone you nominate. During installation, Harps will agree access arrangements with you.

Who connects appliances, gas and plumbing?

Ours is a dry installation: we install your furniture and worktops, and your own qualified trades connect the electrics, gas and plumbing. Book your electrician, plumber and Gas Safe registered engineer early, and share their dates with Harps.

What if something arrives damaged or is missing?

Post a photo in your channel. We'll log it, order the replacement as a remedial and book it in, and keep the rest of the installation moving where we can. Made-to-order parts typically take 4 to 6 weeks.

What happens over Christmas?

Our factories close from 14 December to 11 January. If your manufacture or delivery falls around then, Mehroze will plan your dates around the shutdown.

What does my guarantee cover?

Your furniture is guaranteed for 10 years and your installation for 2 years, starting from Stage 2 sign-off. Full details are in our terms and conditions.

Do you take rubbish away?

Rubbish removal isn't part of our service, but we're happy to give you a quote.

Can my builder or architect talk to you directly?

Please do. We work closely with builders, architects and interior designers. Copy Mehroze into emails so nothing is missed.

What is Jarvis? Am I talking to a person?

Jarvis is Sheraton's AI assistant. It lives in your project channel and can see your live project record, so it can answer questions about your dates, stages and documents at any time. If it can't help, it tags the right person on the team. Your designer, Mehroze, Harps and your installer always reply personally.

When will the team reply on Slack?

Monday to Friday, 10am–6pm, and Saturday, 10am–5pm. Harps works Monday to Friday, and we're closed on Sundays. Jarvis can answer at any time. For anything urgent on site, call 0208 894 5650.

Will I still receive emails?

Yes. You'll receive an email from us at each key stage of your journey. Your Slack channel adds day-to-day contact during delivery and installation.

Will you photograph my kitchen?

With your permission, we'd love to photograph and film your finished kitchen. We'll bring a small thank-you with us.

Do you offer a referral reward?

Yes. For every friend you refer who commissions a project with us, we'll send you £500 in vouchers. There's no limit. See Refer a friend for how it works.

Who do I call if I'm not happy?

Speak to Mehroze first. If you feel it isn't resolved, ask for Shehryar or Nadia. We'd always rather hear about it early.
